Recent developments and improvements in IoT technology have ensured that standard components are available and the step to implementing IoT is getting smaller. How does it work?
BACE makes it possible to collect data from your assets accurately, safely, and easily. When you attach the BACE to an asset, it immediately retrieves data from the asset, sends that data to the Cloud and the collected data is displayed in real time on your portal or a portal tailor-made by Evalan. The solution is plug and play.

The BACE technology
BACE consists of a hardware module and a Cloud application that are connected via the LTE-M / NB-IoT infrastructure, part of the 4G network. This allows BACE to provide long distance connectivity. The hardware module can exchange data with the asset via various protocols such as RS485 / Modbus, CANbus, UART and others. The Cloud application can supply this data to a portal via an API. BACE uses the IoT Hub of the Microsoft Azure Cloud and BACE controls all IoT functions between the module and the Cloud, such as data transmission, security, Over-The-Air software updates, provisioning, and commissioning.

Additional sensors
The BACE module can be supplied with optional sensors, such as temperature, light intensity, humidity, and presence. In addition, BACE can also communicate with external sensors via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (BLE). Other sensors already available in the module are a CO2 sensor or RFID scanner. Evalan can supply these sensors, but it is also possible to connect your own sensors.

Security
Each BACE module receives a unique encryption key and can securely send data to the Cloud. The encryption key is stored on a secure element of Microchip, a secure hardware-based key store. The data is then displayed on a tailor-made portal or an existing dashboard of the customer. BACE can be linked to new assets but also to the assets that are already in the field. In this way, the installed base can also be included in the digital transition.

  1. As an IoT connector
    In this scenario, we include the IoT Hub with associated software update, security, provisioning, and data transfer functions from the IoT modules to the cloud. From there, the data is forwarded via an API to your cloud platform, portal, dashboard, or application. This means that you do not have to worry about security, data storage and transmission capabilities.
  1. As an end-to-end IoT solution
    Here we offer the complete end-to-end solution that collects, stores, processes and displays data in a dashboard. It is easy to implement and no further development work is required.
  1. As an IoT module
    The BACE sends the data directly to your cloud and dashboard, requiring some customization to realize the right solution. This option is ideal if you already have your own Cloud platform and interfaces and want to get more data on your platform.

Cold chain management

One of the applications where BACE can offer a solution is in cold chain management. For some products, such as medication or certain foods, it is important that they are kept at a low temperature throughout the chain. In this way, the quality of these products is maintained. Proper management of this chain is an enormous logistical effort. It often only becomes visible during transport that a problem has occurred at a node or end point in the chain. With BACE it is possible to follow the entire process in real time, to monitor the location of the transport and to monitor the temperature. When the temperature of a transport starts to rise, the driver can be warned to return his truck for service before the contents are damaged. The result is a more environmentally friendly and efficient company with improved product distribution.

Measure mechanical vibrations

BACE also offers a simple solution for predictive maintenance. In factories with many critical machines, maintenance is an important point of attention. Machine vibrations can damage machines and require earlier maintenance. Machine vibration is often caused by machines being out of balance, misaligned, or having loose or worn parts. When the vibration increases, the machine can be damaged. A vibration sensor can be added to the BACE to monitor mechanical vibrations and generate data on the condition of the machines. By checking motors, pumps, compressors, fans, blowers, and gearboxes for an increase in vibration, problems can be detected before they become serious. It provides many benefits such as increasing efficiency, lower maintenance costs, less unplanned downtime and improved decision making.

Water quality monitoring for agriculture

BACE also adds value in maximizing crop growth. Environmental factors that influence indoor agriculture include light, air quality and soil moisture. With a water quality sensor, the quality of the water used for soil moisture can be monitored. This will improve crop yield.

By combining BACE with a water quality sensor, you can take continuous measurements instead of the periodic point-in-time measurements. The sensor measures various water quality values ​​such as pH value, salinity, and oxidation reduction potential (ORP). You can monitor these quality parameters and react quickly when a problem arises and thus prevent plant damage and additional costs.
