NACO partners with IoT provider Evalan to enhance RCR-Tool®

Evalan Distro

Partnership with Evalan brings innovative sensor-based services to runway condition assessment, helping airports react quickly when weather conditions change.

NACO, a company of Royal HaskoningDHV, and Evalan are pleased to announce  a partnership agreement for the delivery of sensor-based services to airports around the world. The agreement combines NACO’s industry-leading airport consulting services with Evalan’s world-class delivery of next-gen technology solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT).

This cooperation centres on NACO’s RCR-Tool®, an advanced simulation modelling solution that provides a highly accurate assessment of the condition of a runway in real-time. RCR-Tool® was developed to support airports in complying with new Global Reporting Format (GRF) regulations, which require airports to conduct a runway condition assessment every time there is a significant change in the runway condition. Without this tool, this assessment is conducted manually.

RCR-Tool® can be implemented in five simple steps. One of these steps, the delivery and operation of three rain sensors near the runway, is now managed by Evalan. These innovative sensors provide detailed information about the precipitation in real-time. Installation is simple and does not require runway closure. The rain data collected by these sensors is a key input of RCR-Tool®, which then creates GRF-compliant runway condition reports without operational disruption.

Pim Meyboom, Senior Project Manager of NACO said: “Our RCR-Tool® sets a new benchmark for runway condition assessment and reporting and enables airports to act quickly when weather conditions change. We anticipate that this tool will support many airports around the world in improving runway safety and operational efficiency.

“We believe that Evalan’s broad experience in managing IoT solutions will contribute to the success of RCR-Tool® and will also enable us to expand the range of sensor-based services we can provide to airports ”.

Henk Schwietert, CEO of Evalan added: “Our strategic cooperation with NACO aligns with our vision that replacing manual tasks by IoT and web-applications will be successful if domain experts and technical specialists work closely together. This partnership enables us to deliver sensor solutions into the world of aviation that can help airports improve safety, reduce waste, identify problems, and save costs.”
