Project
SpiroNose

The SpiroNose from Breathomix analyzes exhaled air to diagnose respiratory diseases. EVALAN was asked to develop the sensor system and a secure data gateway, and to improve the design of the SpiroNose.

The project

With the SpiroNose, VOCs (volatile organic components) are measured in the exhaled air to diagnose lung diseases such as asthma, COPD, lung cancer, and other respiratory conditions. A breath profile of each patient is then created after the sensor values are analyzed and corrected based on surroundings air. These breath profiles are compared with the breath profiles in the BreathBase. EVALAN was asked to develop the sensor system and a secure data gateway, and to improve the design of the SpiroNose.

The problem

Breathomix needed an IoT expert who could improve the SpiroNose and prepare it for large-scale rollout. In collaboration with Breathomix, we developed a production version of the system. EVALAN was responsible for all physical parts of the SpiroNose: the sensor system and a secure data gateway.

The solution

During the development process, EVALAN took care of the sensor system and the device that collects and transmits the measurement data. We are responsible for all physical parts of the SpiroNose: the sensor system and a secure data gateway. Microsoft and Tecknoworks developed the cloud solution, databases, and portal for doctors. During development, the design was improved by us, and the hardware was made suitable for use in healthcare practice.

The key benefits

  • Design that is suitable for healthcare practice.
  • Improved sensor and measurement data collecting system.
  • Secure data gateway.

Goal: Standard medical measurement

The first series of SpiroNoses have been produced and delivered to various hospitals that will conduct research with the devices. Ultimately, the goal is for SpiroNose to become a standard medical measurement. Not in the hospital but at a doctor’s practice.
