Starting January 1, 2027, the net metering scheme for solar panels will cease. The Senate voted this on December 17, in favor of the government’s plan to abolish the scheme. For you as an installer, this is an excellent opportunity to offer your customers a smart, future-proof optimization of their energy consumption.
The end of the net metering scheme by 2027 means that the electricity you generate with your solar panels – or small wind turbines on your business premises – can no longer be offset against your own energy consumption.
Net Metering
Net metering has been used since 2004 to make the investment in solar panels more attractive. However, a third of homes in the Netherlands now have solar panels, and the surplus energy being fed back into the grid is causing problems on the already full electricity network. Therefore, the government has decided to abolish net metering.
Energy Management
Fortunately, the end of net metering can also mark the beginning of smarter energy management. This can be easily achieved with WattMaestro:
- ⚡ Connect all your energy devices: from solar panels and heat pumps to home batteries and electric vehicle charging stations.
- ☀️ Use as much of the generated solar energy as possible yourself.
- 💡 Optimize your energy consumption and costs: for example, by automatically turning systems on or off depending on energy prices and production.
