The Handicart Foundation is an organization that helps golfers with mobility problems to continue practicing the sport by renting out golf carts to them. Handicart owns approximately 750 golf carts, often referred to as the Handicarts, spread across 113 clubs. To properly manage these carts, Evalan has developed a fleet management system that enables Handicart to manage the fleet remotely and to arrange the rental of the carts more easily. This fleet management system consists of a Portal and RFID terminals with which users can make reservations and check in. The system is used satisfactorily and has recently been extended with new functions. Handicart has therefore asked Evalan to supply 250 new check-in terminals.
Warning system
The fleet management system consists of several parts. The first part of this IoT solution is a warning system that provides insight into the condition of the batteries of the carts. The reliability of the batteries turned out to decrease over time and this led to failure. The warning system reports when a battery is due for maintenance, thereby increasing the operational availability of the carts.
Registering of damage
Before the introduction of the fleet management system, the reportage of damage was nog always consistent. The second part of the IoT solution makes it possible to easily and quickly register any damage to the carts. This information is immediately passed on to the Handicart Foundation, which can arrange the repair and, if necessary, temporarily disable the cart. As long as the cart has not been repaired, the inactive notification remains in the Portal. Finally, the Portal contains an online reservation system, to which a payment solution has been added to arrange the payment of the rental income from the carts. A cardholder can rent a cart via the Portal and it is registered in real time when it has been used.
Works to full satisfaction of client
The fleet management system collects all kinds of data about the golf carts, such as the number of kilometers driven, battery charging cycles, energy consumption and locations. This is displayed by the system in real time and ensures that the Handicart Foundation can control the carts more efficiently and maintain them better. The system has been in use for more than two years and works to the full satisfaction of the Handicart Foundation.
